More About Faith Over Fear
When you walk to the water’s edge and see a reflection of yourself, you know that the face you are seeing is not real. Look at a photo of majestic mountains above a lake, and you will see the reflection of the mountains in the water. Yet, the images you see when you look down are not the real majestic giants towering in grandeur above you. They are only a fake substitute for what is really real.
This principle works in the spiritual realm. Keep your head down, stay focused on your circumstances and you will never experience the truth of who God is. Spend too much time worrying about your situation, and you will never experience the faith you need to make it through. When our focus is on anything but the Lord, our faith gets replaced with fear.
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from when comes my help. My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1).
Eyes up, God’s help. Eyes down, fear takes a hold of the heart.
Peter's Faith over Fear
Consider Peter and his attempt at living in faith. One day as the disciples are traveling across the Sea of Galilee, a storm comes upon them. In their distress, they cry out for the Lord, who walks through the wind and the wave towards them. The disciples are quite surprised, but Peter speaks to Jesus knowing that the best place to be in a storm is by the Master’s side. He gingerly gets out of the boat and begins walking on water. “But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
Eyes up, walk in faith. Eyes down, sink like a stone.
The Faith over Fear of Elijah, David, and the Children of Israel
Consider any of the great stories in the Bible. Elijah looked up to the Lord and prayed and fire fell from heaven. While everyone else was looking at the water-soaked offering, the man of faith was looking up. David looked up and proclaimed his faith in the Living God to bring down a giant, while everyone else was looking at the intimidating stature of the enemy. They could have looked at the furnace around them, instead they looked to the Lord. The children of Israel had the same choice. Look down at the sand and be filled with fear or they can look up and see the manna of God’s provision rain down.
Eyes up, or eyes down. It is simply a matter of focus.
"God did not give us a spirit of fear. But one of power, love, and sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7.
The Faith Over Fear Design
That is what this FAITH OVER FEAR is all about. Look how the case is designed. The word FAITH IS bold and bright, while the word FEAR is printed in a softer color and upside down. Just like a reflection. Look up at the heavens, and cling to the Faith that overcomes the reflection of fear.
