And she will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for it is He who will save His people from their sins. (NASB) Matthew 1:21

“Whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.”  (Joel 2:32).

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:17).

Sometimes it is the simplest message that is the most powerful. Take for example, the two words. JESUS SAVES. Those two words are filled with the power of God. They have proclaimed the gospel throughout history in a way that even a child can understand. But have you ever stopped and reflected on the great truths that these two words convey?

The Bible indicates that all have “sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23). This means that there is “none that is righteous, no not one” (Ps. 14:3). While you and I might want to believe that we are worthy of God’s affection, the truth is we are not. Even though man was created for a relationship with God, the sinful nature that caused Adam to violated God’s command in the Garden of Eden lives in us. Each of us have chosen to go our own way.

We have rebelled against the love of God, choosing to embrace the pleasures of sin rather than the love of the Heavenly Father. There is not one human being on the face of this earth throughout all of human history who has not sinned (save Jesus).

Every day, we witness this horrible tendency in the heart of humankind. Think about the violence that we so often see in our world today. The hatred people have for one another. The injustices that they perform. The contempt and anger that fuels our daily existence. The inhumanities and atrocities we see in the news each day, are only a tiny ripple compared to the tsunami of sin that engulfs the human heart every moment of every day.

As is our sinful nature wasn’t bad enough, it has a consequence. Without God, we are eternally separated from God. Romans 6:23 tell us that “the wages of sin is death….”  A wage is something that is earned. Because we harbor the sinful nature of Adam in us, we deserve to die. We EARNED death. We are under the judgement of a Holy God. One of the most popular verses of the Bible contains a word that most people skip over.

John 3:16 tells us that God sent his Son so that we might not perish. In other words, if you do not believe in Jesus, you will die. Be lost forever. You lose your life never to be recovered again. It is a sad consequence of our world that many people have died without knowing that God loves them. They are now an eternity apart from experiencing the love of God.

There is good news, though. God has made a way for our relationship with Him to be restored. The Bible tells us that “God demonstrates His love for us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom 5:8). In addition, Jesus’ purpose is described in the gospel of Luke, to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the remission of their sins,” (Luke 1:77).

Jesus himself proclaimed that he was the only way for a sinful mankind to be restored to the Father. “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6).

Jesus did not proclaim to be “a” way. He professed to the “THE” way. In our world of political correctness, it can be a daunting thing to promote this message, but the Bible clearly teaches it.

The act of salvation comes by faith. Eph. 2:8-9 tell us that our salvation is by grace through faith and not of ourselves, it is the gift of God” (Eph 2:8). Galatians 2:16 says that “a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ”

In other words, you must accept Jesus into your heart by faith, because “everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved” (Joel 2:32). Once a person has asked God to forgive them of his sins, and invites Jesus to come into his heart to make him a new creation (1 Cor. 5:17), then he can look forward to an eternity with the Heavenly Father.

God will not force His way into your heart. He wait until you have opened the door of your heart and invited him in. BeholdI stand at the door and knockIf anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Rev.3:20).

Our purpose is not about the shirt, it is about the message. So, when you wear this shirt, remember the words that Paul wrote – “For I am not ashamed of the gospel. for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”

Be prepared. Because sometimes the simplest words can carry the most powerful message.
