ABOUT WINGS LIKE EAGLES

“But those who wait on the Lord, Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”(Isaiah 40:31).

In Isaiah 40:31 – the prophet makes a reference to eagle’s wings. No doubt, he had seen an eagle in action. Isaiah knew that God had designed the eagle with an instinct to know when the storm clouds were gathering. Rather than hunker down in the nest, the eagle takes flight ahead of the storm. It uses the threatening winds to spread its wings and rise above the clouds, to soar to heights that it might never have reached before.

The eagle knows that the updraft of the storm provides the most safety, so it lets the violent forces of the wind and rain push it higher. And in doing this, it waits. The bird banks this way and that, drifting with the updrafts, rising above the lightning and thunder until the storm passes.

Isaiah teaches us that we can learn from the eagle. Those who are forced to wait on the Lord can mount up with wings like eagles.

We have all lost loved ones. I believe that God was renewing my mother-in-law's strength as she waited for Jesus to call her home. I believe that even now in heaven, God has renewed her strength. She is running and not getting weary. She walks and does not faint. She has more joy in Jesus as the glory of God is shining brightly before her. She is basking in His Presence and breathing in the sweet nectar of eternal life as if it were a freshly picked rosebud. Why? Because as verse 29 tells us - He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.”  You just have to wait on the Lord.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, because You are with me.” (Ps. 23:4).

Have you not heard? Have you not known? Our Lord is with us as we wait. He neither faints nor grows weary. He restores our souls.

This is the secret to waiting on God. His Presence. Even though we may not sense God, the strife and the struggle and the turmoil of the storm can push us closer to Him.
