"Faith Hope Love" Christmas Ornament
Our Faith Hope Love Christmas Ornament is inspired by the truth of 1 Corinthians 13.
Verses 4 through 8 say "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends."
This copyrighted 316Tees design features the words Faith, Hope, & Love in a circular pattern that borders a great number of doves, in the shape of a heart. Doves in the Bible represent God's love, his power, and his presence.
ABOUT FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE
In I Corinthians 13:13, Paul writes "So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love."
In the letter to the Corinthians, Paul makes a case for love. This passage is often read at weddings and funerals (as it should be).
In one of the most beautiful passages of scripture, Paul is reflecting on the role of spiritual gifts in the church. (I Cor. 14). The believers at Corinth were divided over which spiritual gift was the greatest. Dividing into factions, the church was rife with internal turmoil, as groups vied for prominence.
The congregation of believers he had worked so hard to forge was in danger of splintering from the inside out. To seek to prevent this from happening, Paul writes about the one thing that must be the common thread weaving every believer to each other. Love is the cord that binds. Love is the constant. Love is the “superglue” that binds us to one another as followers of Christ. Love endures.
His basic argument is that you can have been blessed with a tremendous spiritual gift and it still mean nothing. For example, you could speak with the tongues of men and angels and yet without love, you are nothing but noise.
You could prophesy, explain the mysteries of the universe, know all things, but without love – again nothing. Your faith could be so evident that it moved mountains at your command, but without love, that faith is worthless. You could even give yourself over to death for the cause of Christ, but without love, your sacrifice is pointless.
Paul writes about the characteristics of love in the next few verses. (Notice how relational these characteristics are). Paul writes: “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.”
It is not faith that lasts (faith is the evidence of things unseen). It is not hope that lasts (one day hope is fulfilled), One day every spiritual gift will cease; there will be no need for prophesy, because we will know just as we have been fully known (I Cor. 12:12).
There will be no need for any spiritual gift because we will stand before the throne of God having seen the plan and purpose of God. Completed. Paul is telling the church to stop fighting over who has the better gift, because there will come a day when none of that matters.
What matters? Love. We know this truth because it was the very thing that motivated God’s heart to send His Son to die for us.
As the Bible says, “For God SO loved….”
