"Lord Guide Me" Shirt

This shirt is inspired by Psalm 25:4-5, "Show me your ways, Lord teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long."

The Lord is our guide. Jesus promised He would leave us a "guide". How does he guide us? The Holy Spirit. If we do it our own way, we run off the path of righteousness. But if we ask God, the Holy Spirit guides us every step of the way. So powerful.

ABOUT PSALM 25:4-5

GOD’S THREE-FOLD PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE

Have you ever wondered what the secret to living the Christian life is? In our hectic and complicated world, it seems as if living for Jesus is anything but simple. There are so many voices, so many devotional plans, so many methods, so many religious activities that it can be confusing to know what is right. One spiritual leader tells us, “This is what you should do.” Another preacher tells us, “No, this is the way.” And yet another throws everything else out and says “focus your energy here” – proclaiming that this method is what it means to really love Jesus.

Luckily for us, the Psalmist gives a three-point plan that God has for our lives. Listen to what this lover of God writes in Psalm 24:5 - "Show me your ways, Lord teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long."

If we were to break this verse apart, we would find 3 separate acts that the Psalmist asks God to perform in his life. If we align ourselves to these spiritual principles, God’s plan for our life will become clear as we walk with Him each day.

GOD DESIRES TO REVEAL HIMSELF TO YOU - Show me your ways.

When you attended elementary school, chances are your class had a weekly “show and tell.” Remember how each student had to bring something from their home to show the class? A puppy? A hamster named Harvey? An old baseball card? The revelation (showing) was a big part of the exercise. Showing something to someone involves the act of revelation.

God has revealed himself to us in so many ways, but primarily in the form of Jesus Christ. Jesus told his disciples that “He who has seen me, has seen the Father” (John 14:9). This act of revelation was the most most personal of all the ways that God reveals Himself to us because it involved His Son. Romans 5:8 tells us exactly that when Paul writes, “For God demonstrates His love for us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.

GOD DESIRES TO INSTRUCT YOU – Lord, teach me your paths

God’s plan does not just stop at revelation, even though it could have. God wants to continue his relationship with us, by teaching us daily. He makes himself available to us so that we might learn from Him. The act of learning involves a process.

When we were younger, we learned new things each day. The act of learning took time because our brains could not absorb all the information that the world had to offer. The same is true on a spiritual level. God knows that as a new Christian, we don’t know everything about how to live the Christian life. So, God teaches us the lessons of life as we can handle them, growing us in His Word, knowing that we can only handle one lesson at a time.

GOD DESIRES TO LEAD YOU INTO TRUTH - Guide me in your truth

Ultimately, if you allow the Heavenly Father to reveal Himself to you, and to teach you His ways, then it stands to reason that He will guide you into truth. Truth is an often-debated topic in our world today, with so many people screaming to be heard. But God is willing and able to show us what is real and what is not.

Think for a moment about what the purpose of a guide is. Perhaps you have had to put together a piece of furniture from a box, and you didn’t know how to do it. You opened the box and there were tons of pieces, lots of bolts and screws, and gadgets you don’t recognize. As it spills out onto the floor, you realize that the pile in front of you is a complicated mess. But then, you spot an instruction book and as you follow the guide, things begin to make sense. So, it is with the Christian life. The prayer of the Psalmist is for God to provide a guide that will lead him into truth.

GOD DESIRES HUMILITY AND DEPENDENCEFor You are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long

Notice that the verse ends in a statement of faith and dependence. Basically, the Psalmist prays for God to show, teach and lead, because as a child of the Most High, he has a heart filled with faith and hope. The Psalmist declares his allegiance to the Father by acknowledging that God is his Savior and his Hope. Notice that this is a daily, moment by moment dependence on God. His belief is not "for a moment but all day long”. By trusting God completely, he knows that God will always show, teach, and lead him.

That’s what the message of this shirt is all about. It is a constant reminder to us and others that our faith and hope are in the Lord, maker of heaven and earth. Wear it with confidence as you proclaim to the world your love and faith in God.
