WHAT IS WAY MAKER?
Every now and then, a song captures the heart of the public in a way that no song has done before. In the past few years, one worship song has stood above all the others. Way maker, written by Nigerian gospel singer Sinach was released as a single at the end of 2015. The song has been covered by many artists including one of the most popular covers performed by Leeland.
The song has a story. The lyrics are based on a passage of Genesis 12:1-5 in which God tells Abraham to leave the land he is used to and follow by faith to the land God has prepared for him.

Rest of the story: In this wonderful passage, God gives one command and follows it with seven distinct promises. The only command is for Abraham to go by faith to the place that God has prepared. And if he does, God promises to do many great and wonderful things for him, and through him. God will work abundantly beyond anything that Abraham could even conceive, even to the extent of blessing all the peoples of the earth.
Notice how often the phrase “I will” or “I will make” is used. God is indeed our way maker, our promise keeper, our light in the darkness just as the song says. The spiritual truth is that for people of faith, God always gives more than He receives. He blesses beyond measure when a willing, believing heart turns towards Him.
I can only imagine how daunting God’s request of Abraham truly was. The Almighty was asking him to leave the known and step into the unknown. He was inviting him to leave the familiar and venture out into the unfamiliar. Leave the old life he had grown comfortable with, and journey toward a new life in a new land. He was to “Go”, to follow the leading of the Lord, step by step for the rest of his days.
This is the journey of faith. Not just for Abraham but for each of us. As Christians, God calls us to leave our old natures behind and walk in the newness of life. When we do, when we submit our hearts in worship, as the song says, He becomes our way maker, our miracle worker, our promise keeper. He is the light in the darkness. Our God, that is truly who He is.
Stop for a moment and think about how God has guided you, directed you, led you on his path for His namesake. Chances are that God has led you to experience new things that you never anticipated. He has blessed you in ways beyond measure. He has worked miracles and kept His promises. By wearing a way maker T shirt, you are acknowledging these wonderful truths from God’s word.
